The therapeutic use of plants can be dated back as far as Ancient Egyptian civilisations and has been practised for centuries by lots of different cultures, including the Chinese, more than 2000 years ago.
The essential oils
Essential oils, or aromatherapy oils, are made from natural plant extracts which can be found in the flowers, roots, leaves, seeds and bark.
These oils are inhaled, which then stimulates the olfactory nerves, impacting the emotional centre of the brain.
Not only do these essential oils have a pleasant aroma, they can be used to help clear the senses. They also have multiple benefits for emotional wellbeing.
There are over 90 essential oils, each of which has a unique fragrance and different benefit.
Some of the most popular essential oils include lavender and peppermint.
Lavender oil
Miaroma Lavender Pure Essential Oil has relaxing and healing properties. Its scent is well known to help you drift off to sleep and it can also help to soothe sensitive skin.
Pop a couple of drops of lavender oil on your pillow for a good night’s sleep or spray the sleep mist around your bedroom just before bedtime.

In a diffuser: Add essential oils to a diffuser or oil burner to create a serene (or invigorating!) atmosphere throughout your home or office.
On your skin and hair: Lavender essential oil can be used on the skin to help soothe spot-prone skin.
It helps to moisturise the skin while acting as an antibacterial substance and helping to unblock pores.
As well as this, lavender oil can be used to soothe dry skin and help provide relief from insect bites and sunburn, thanks to its soothing properties.
Argan oil can be used to nourish and moisturise your hair, skin, lips and nails.
It adds shine and reduces frizz when used as a conditioner on hair.
Adding a couple of drops of geranium oil to your moisturiser and using twice daily will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as supporting skin elasticity and regulating oil production.
